The "Should I Delegate This?" Filter
Ask These 4 Questions:
- Is this in my $1000/hour zone?
- If NO → Delegate
- If YES → Keep (for now)
- Do I need to do this to maintain relationships?
- If YES → Keep
- If NO → Delegate
- Can this be systematized with an SOP?
- If YES → High delegation priority
- If NO → Medium priority (train first)
- What's the worst that happens if it's done wrong?
- Minor mistake → Delegate immediately
- Major consequence → Train thoroughly first
Delegation Score Matrix
High Delegatable (Do First):
- Recurring tasks
- Clear right/wrong outcomes
- Minimal external relationships
- Time-consuming but straightforward
Medium Delegatable (Do Second):
- Occasional tasks
- Some judgment required
- Internal stakeholders only
- Moderate complexity
Low Delegatable (Keep for Now):
- Strategic decisions
- External relationship building
